All-new Mercedes CLA 200 AMG Line was previewed in Singapore
The all-new Mercedes CLA 200 AMG Line is coming to Malaysia. The estimated selling price is RM275,000. The 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol model joins the recently launched all-electric CLA 250+. Both are assembled in Pekan, Pahang. Mercedes-Benz held a preview and test drive of the CLA 200 AMG Line in Singapore.
The CLA 200 has a combined output of 184hp (135kW) and a maximum torque of 330Nm from the engine, electric motor integrated into the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and the 48V battery. The battery is able to generate up to 1.3kWh to power the electric motor.
At urban speeds, the CLA 200 uses electric power alone. So-called “electric sailing”, i.e. efficient coasting with a decoupled drivetrain, is possible up to around 100 km/h. The motor is able to recuperate in all eight gears, recovering up to 25 kW of energy.
Since the torque output of the combustion engine and the electric motor add up, the maximum torque is available over a wide speed range. In addition, the combustion engine can be started entirely by the electric motor and the disconnect clutch. This eliminates the need for a conventional pinion starter.
Mercedes-Benz claims that the Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 AMG Line is the most efficient Mercedes-Benz vehicle with an internal combustion engine in this segment, with a consumption of around five litres per 100 kilometres and below.
The distinguishing feature in the petrol variant is the front grille which features the classic radiator grille with central star and Mercedes-Benz pattern in chrome. It is framed by a LED light guide with LED-illuminated edges when the lights are switched on.
The interior equipment is also nearly identical. As with the EV, there is Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) and the fourth-generation MBUX. MB.OS is powered by inhouse-developed AIs and supercomputers connected to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud. This enables over-the-air updates of the entire vehicle software, including driving assistance systems, keeping the all-new CLA up-to-date.
MB.OS is able to personalise experiences and intuitive interaction between human and the MBUX Virtual Assistant from continuous interaction. The fourth generation of the MBUX infotainment system integrates artificial intelligence (AI) from both Microsoft and Google. The Virtual Assistant uses a multi-agent approach, integrating AI tools from both companies. MBUX VA selects the best source for each task, drawing on the collective knowledge of the internet. For the user, conversing with the MBUX VA feels like chatting with a friend. Answers and follow-ups are provided without the context repeated.
Navigation is based on Google Maps, developed in partnership, and integrates Google Cloud’s new Automotive AI Agent for in-vehicle use with Google Maps. Integrated visual communication seamlessly combines, in real time, the driving-assistance view with a 3D representation of the surroundings and route guidance on the driver display. Drivers benefit from improved situational awareness as they can see what the all-new CLA sees and how the assistance systems are supporting them.
The interior features AMG Line Sports Seat Package, Artico leather / Microcut microfibre upholstery, light carbon-grain aluminium trim elements, and a multifunction sports steering wheel in nappa leather. The floating MBUX Superscreen extends across the entire interior width. Behind a large glass surface are the 10.25-inch driver display, the 14-inch central display, and the 14-inch front passenger display. The infotainment available includes over 40 apps, video streaming, and direct access to Disney+. The state-of-the-art, high-performance chips for the displays and real-time graphics are from the Unity Game Engine.
In addition for cabin comfort, there is Thermotronic automatic climate control for individual temperature settings for the driver and front passenger.
