All-electric Jaecoo J5 is Jaecoo’s first electric vehicle to launch in Malaysia

All-electric Jaecoo J5 has launched in Malaysia following its preview at Midvalley Megamall in July. The B-segment EV SUV is assembled at the Chery Corporate Malaysia plant in Shah Alam. It competes against the BYD Atto 3 and the Proton eMas 7.

The J5 EV shares the same boxy form as the J5 turbo-petrol SUV which launched earlier this year but with styling details that are specific to the EV. These include

• Active Grille Shutter
• 18-inch aerodynamic wheels
• 1.45-meter panoramic glass roof
• 35-litre frunk
• BEV plate on the front bumper

The first all-electric model from Jaecoo in Malaysia, the J5 EV produces 155kW (208hp/211PS) and 288Nm of torque and is powered by a 58.9kWh CATL Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery. The WLTP driving range is around 402km. The 11kW on-board charger takes seven hours to recharge from 10% to 100%. DC fast charging from 30% to 80% takes around 28 minutes. There is also 3.3kW Vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality.

The J5 EV is available in five colours: Alpine Green, Fjord Grey and Carbon Crystal Black. The price is RM118,8000 on-the-road without insurance and comes with comprehensive manufacturer warranty coverage which includes seven-year / 150,000 km vehicle warranty and 10-year / 200,000 km high-voltage battery warranty.
