Asia Cross Country Rally 2024: Team Malaysia announced

Asia Cross Country Rally 2024 marks 20 years since Malaysia’s last participation

Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) 2024 returns to Malaysia after a 20 year absence with Malaysia fielding a team for the cross-border four-wheel and two-wheel endurance race. The driving team will consist of team leader, Karamjit Singh with Leona Chin and Saladin Mazlan as fellow drivers. The bike team is led by Tommy Lee who will announce the team later.

The event will flag-off on 11 August 2024 from Thailand and end in Kuala Lumpur on 17 August 2024, covering thousands of kilometres.

AXCR is sanctioned by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). The endurance race covers more than 1500km and crosses at least two countries. The route is different every year with 40-50 four-wheel vehicles and 20-50 motorbikes taking part. Malaysia has hosted six of these events, in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2003.

In previous AXCR races, contestants have come from Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Taiwan, Australia, India, America and Korea with private teams as well as Factory Teams such as Toyota Gazoo Racing and Mitsubishi Ralliart taking part.

The race is endorsed by automotive and bike manufacturers. The regulations for vehicles include:

  • Production vehicles only, no prototypes permitted. The vehicles and equipment are inspected and approved by FIA and AXCR officials before every race.
  • All vehicles have to be in current production and street legal and must comply with the International Convention of Road Traffic as well as Safety specifications laid down by FIA regulations.

The Ministry of Youth & Sport endorses AXCR 2024 along with the Asia Cross Country Rally Friendship Association.
