T0 summarise, the updates in the CKD X70 are:

  • New gearbox – a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission
  • Power tailgate with foot sensor (top two, Premium specs)
  • Ventilated front seats (top three specs)
  • Optional panoramic sunroof (top, Premium X, spec only)

Other updates are two-step adjustable rear seat back angle, new design engine cover and a tweak to the suspension to reduce bodyroll.

The most significant update is the new seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox which replaces the six-speed automatic. The wet dual-clutch transmission is also in the Volvo XC40. The 1.8-litre turbocharged engine’s 184bhp output remains the same but torque has increased 15Nm to 300Nm while its claimed fuel efficiency has improved by 13 per cent. Fuel consumption is now 13.2km/L (claimed). The 0-100km/h time has also been reduced, by 1 second, to 9.5 seconds.

As before, the autonomous safety Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) is only in the Premium spec, comprising Autonomous Emergency Braking and Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Information System, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and a door opening warning. Other features exclusive to the Premium trim are tyre pressure monitoring, four front and four rear parking sensors, intelligent high beam control and Nappa leather seats with ‘Boss’ switch.

Safety features offered across the range are six airbags, ABS brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-hold assist and hill descent control.

The Standard spec has halogen headlights, LED front foglights and 17-inch rims. The Executive and Premium models have all-LED lamps. The Executive has 18-inch rims while the Premiums are shod with 19-inch rims. The top three trim levels are also fitted with auto rain sensing front windscreen wipers, intelligent entry and push button ignition, six-way adjustable powered driver’s seat and 360º camera.

The infotainment system is the same across the range with an eight-inch touchscreen monitor, voice command, smartphone connectivity (Android only), Bluetooth connectivity and 4G and Wi-Fi. The Standard comes with six speakers, the Executive with eight and the Premium nine – with additional Power Amplifier and subwoofer. There are also six USB ports, including a dedicated dashcam port located behind the rear view mirror.

The Proton X70 is offered in six colours:
