Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has posted their third quarter results for 2016 and it’s another record quarter for the German automaker with 10% growth compared to the same period last year. So far in 2016, 9047 cars have been delivered to customers and MBM has extended the lead in its position as the number one premium brand in Malaysia, with 2.4% marketshare.
This marque’s position has been helped considerably by the launch of 10 new models into the Malaysia market since January starting with the SUVs, the GLC, GLE, GLE Coupé. This has since been followed up with the all-new E-Class, the midlife refresh of the A-Class, the C-Class Coupé, the SLC Roadster, C-Class Cabriolet, locally-assembled GLC and most recently, the C350e plug-in hybrid, Mercedes’s third locally-assembled hybrid, which qualifies for tax breaks due to its EEV status.
The compact cars made up 1851 units sold, consisting of the A-Class 829 units, CLA 480 units and GLA with 473 units. The A-Class went up 21% in sales compared to the first nine months of last year, an increase contributed to by the update in the model’s looks earlier this year. Sales for the CLA were down 35% compared to same period as customers are held back by the impending facelift of the CLA due later this year. The GLA also saw a 22% reduction in numbers sold for the same reason.
Of the locally-assembled models, the C, E and S-Class, a total of 6017 cars were sold. The best-seller was the C-Class, up 90% from the same period in 2015, with 3733 units sold. Next was the newly-launched E-Class with 1463 units delivered. The S-Class saw a 40% year-on-year reduction to 821 units, in anticipation of the upcoming mid-cycle update to the flagship model. Over 3307 units of the W222 S-Class has been sold in Malaysia since its launch here in 2014.
The GLC, both fully-imported and locally-assembled, saw sales of 964 units while for the GLE and GLE Coupés it was 190 units.
And finally, the Dream Cars, of which 195 units were sold in the 3rd quarter of 2016.
2016 has been Mercedes-Benz’s most successful year so far, not just in Malaysia but globally with the company selling record numbers around the world.
