Daimler and Uber to cooperate on autonomous cars

Daimler and Uber have announced an agreement on the supply and operation of self-driving vehicles on Uber’s global ridesharing network. Theirs is the first agreement as Uber opens up its platform to autonomous cars.

Daimler is a pioneer in self-driving vehicle technologies. The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the world’s first series-production vehicle to be awarded a test licence for autonomous driving in the US state of Nevada. With its Highway Pilot system, Daimler Trucks is now the world’s first truck manufacturer with plans to develop an autonomous driving system for use in commercial vehicles.

Uber is working with its Advanced Technology Group to test the cars while there is also an Otto division working on self-driving trucks.

With a network that stretches across 74 countries, Uber has experience to share with Daimler, for a win-win situation from each company’s research and development of autonomous driving and network operations.
