MG Motor Malaysia announces strong Q1 in 2026

MG Motor Malaysia celebrated their second anniversary in Malaysia and shared growth plans moving forward

MG Motor Malaysia has celebrated its second anniversary in Malaysia with a strong start for the first-quarter of 2026, growing customer engagement, network expansion and product milestones.

Among the highlights in the first quarter was the MG Cyberster winning Performance Car of the Year in the 2025 Malaysia Car of the Year Awards. The Award ceremony was held in January 2026. There was also the MG Motor Malaysia’s Dealer Conference and Chinese New Year celebration in February.

In March, MG’s first locally-assembled electric vehicle in Malaysia, the MGS5 crossover rolled-off the assembly line in Malacca. EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) is MG Motor Malaysia’s assembly partner. This represented the next phase of MG’s localisation journey and reinforces its long-term commitment to local assembly, technology transfer and the development of Malaysia’s EV ecosystem.

The MGS5 EV CKD is now available in Malaysia at RM116,900 with special launch promotions worth up to RM9,000. Visit any MG showroom nationwide for viewing and test drives.

MG Motor Malaysia also held a series of festive and retail events during Chinese New Year and Hari Raya. Besides the showroom campaigns and dealer open house activities, there was also the “Experience British Driving Dynamics” test drive campaign. At this event Malaysians got to experience MG vehicles firsthand.

In addition, there were roadshows at Desa ParkCity, Quayside Mall, The Curve, Starling Mall, and IOI City Mall. This enabled consumers to explore MG’s model range.

Also, on the international front, there was MG Tech Day in Frankfurt. The brand unveiled MG Hybrid+ and the world’s first mass-produced semi-solid-state battery, highlighting its ongoing product and technology ambitions.

In addition to its product and brand milestones, MG Motor Malaysia recorded strong sales growth in Q1 2026. Sale rose 57% compared to Q4 2025 and 39% year-on-year versus Q1 2025. This reflected continued market interest and growing confidence in the brand.

“Q1 has been a meaningful and encouraging start to the year for MG in Malaysia,” said Emory Qi, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Malaysia. “From product recognition to the local roll-out of the MGS5 EV CKD, these milestones reflect the strength of our product line-up and our long-term commitment to the Malaysian market.”

He added, “As we move further into 2026, we remain focused on delivering compelling products, strengthening customer engagement, and continuing to expand our footprint through innovation and localisation.”

In addition, MG Motor Malaysia will be at the upcoming Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS), showcasing its latest developments and future direction. Present at KLIMS will be Jozef Kaban, the Vice President of Global Design at SAIC Motor. He will share insights into MG’s design philosophy and evolving global design language.

Looking ahead, MG Motor Malaysia will continue to strengthen its network and aftersales capabilities. These include the addition of MG 3S centres in Kuantan and Rawang, enhancing accessibility for customers across key regions.

The brand also continues to invest in aftersales. There are 11 body and paint facilities nationwide, ensuring customers receive comprehensive and high-quality support.

With a strong start to the year and continued developments ahead, MG Motor Malaysia remains focused on building a sustainable presence in the local market. To find out more, visit the MG Motor Malaysia official website at www.mgmalaysia.com.
