Jaecoo J8 SUV now in Malaysia from RM179k

Jaecoo J8 available in five-seater 2WD and six-seater AWD

The Jaecoo J8 is now in Malaysia. Omoda|Jaecoo’s flagship SUV is available in two variants, a five seat two-wheel drive and a six seat all-wheel drive.

Both variants are 4,820 mm long, 1,930 mm wide and 1,710 mm in high with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.

Outside a Waterfall front grille is flanked by LED headlights with Daytime Running Lights. There are flush door handles to reduce aerodynamic drag and wind noise. There are also two-tone 20-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof and 540-degree HD surround view.

The same 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine is in both the 2WD and AWD, delivering 245hp and 385 Nm of torque. They both have eight-speed automatic transmission. Sprint time to 100km/h in the two-wheel drive takes 8.8 seconds while in the AWD, it takes 9.0 seconds. Claimed fuel consumption is 7.8L per 100km for the 2WD and 8.1L per 100km for the AWD.

The J8 2WD has three drive modes, Eco, Normal and Sport. The AWD has Eco, Normal, Sport as well as Mud, Sand and Off-Road. The AWD also has Continuous Damping Control suspension.

Both variants have Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Level 2.5 which the highest level of autonomous safety features currently available in Malaysia. This includes

  • full speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Driver Monitoring System (DMS)
  • Lane Change Assistance (LCA)
  • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
  • Forward Distance Monitoring (FDM)
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)\
  • Event Data Recorder (EDR)
  • Fully Automatic Parking in the AWD variant

In addition, there is OneBox brake-by-wire electronic braking system which has been specially calibrated for the J8’s proportions and driving dynamics. The 2WD has six airbags while the AWD has ten.

The J8 has leather upholstery. The two-wheel drive has two rows of seats, two in front, three in the rear while the all-wheel drive has three rows each with two seats. The front passenger seat in the AWD has adjustable leg support while the second row has Captain seats. The driver, front passenger and second row occupants have ventilated and heated seats with massage and memory functions.

The boot is 738 litres in both variants but with the third row in the J8 AWD upright, the available space goes down to 200 litres. The 2WD has the option to fold the second row seats down flat to increase cargo space to 2021 litres.

The wraparound dashboard features two 12.3-inch displays and a wide Head-Up Display. There is wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There is a 50W wireless mobile phone charger with built-in cooling on the centre console. The 2WD has a 12-speaker Sony system while the AWD has a 14-speaker Sony system which includes headrest speakers.

There is also keyless NFC entry, a built-in fragrance system and a Digital Video Recorder built-in.

The Jaecoo J8 starts from RM178,800 for the two-wheel drive while the J8 AWD starts from RM198,800.

Deliveries of the Jaecoo J8 AWD begin in July 2025. The 2WD variant will begin production after that. The Jaecoo J8 is built in Shah Alam.
