2023 all-new Kia Niro battery electric crossover has 460-kilometre range
The 2023 all-new Kia Niro is now in Malaysia. One variant is available of the two-wheel drive, front-wheel drive battery electric crossover, powered by a 64.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with the motor producing 150kW (201bhp) with 255Nm of torque. Zero to 100km/h takes 7.8 seconds to the top speed of 167km/h. Range is approximately 460 kilometres on a single charge. Charging from 10 per cent to 80 per cent is within 45 minutes on a DC rapid charger.
The Kia Niro is 4430mm long, 1825mm wide and 1570mm high with a 2720mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is 150mm. Other cars of a similar size are the Volvos XC40 and C40, at 4440mm, 1863mm wide and 1652mm tall.
Smart features in the Niro include Smart Regeneration braking, guided by a radar which reads the road gradient and calculates the optimum amount of braking required to slow down the car and also recuperate kinetic energy to maximise range.
There is also vehicle-to-load (V2L), able to supply 3.6kWh of power.
All the exterior and interior lights for the Niro are LED. There are front and rear sensors and smart powered tailgate. The interior is upholstered in leatherette with powered seats for both driver and front passenger, both with ventilation and heating. The driver’s seat also has memory function. The ambient lighting is customisable with themes.
Other features are paddle shifts, dual-zone automatic air-conditioning, dual air cents for the rear, three USB-C ports, wireless charger and cruise control.
The infotainment display is a 10.25-inch touchscreen monitor. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included.
