Hyundai Staria luxurious MPV targeted at executive market
The all-new Hyundai Staria Premium has launched in Malaysia. The MPV is the first vehicle on Hyundai’s new MPV platform. Aimed at the executive market, the Staria is a front-wheel drive seven-seater with a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine and eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine produces 174bhp and 431Nn of torque.
The silhouette is based on an upward curve that goes from front to rear in one stroke. There is a large glasshouse, low shoulder line and two sunroofs which makes the interior bright and airy. The head and taillights are square LEDs which give the Staria a distinctive light-pattern from the front and back. There are LED daytime running lights and a positioning lamp running across the bonnet.
Seven colours are offered for exterior paint work, with two colour options available for the radiator grille, outside mirrors, door handles, headlamp surrounds, 18-inch wheels and Hyundai emblem. They can be specced in either Tinted Brass Chrome or Dark Grey to individualise the MPV.
The dashboard is flat with a 10.25-inch screen with digital instrument cluster located in a recess in front of the driver. The Staria has fly-by-wire transmission so the gear selector is four buttons, D, N, R and P with gear changes initiated via paddles on the steering wheel. There are four drive modes: Eco, Normal, Sport and Smart. The appearance of the instrument cluster changes according to the drive mode selected. There is a smart infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is also a 12-speaker Bose system.
The Hyundai Staria is more premium than the Hyundai Grand Starex and comes with more luxurious features and equipment like Premium Relaxation Seats in the second row that recline electronically and has leg rests. The one-touch relaxation mode makes the seats recline automatically to a posture that disperses the passenger’s weight and improves overall body balance. The driver and front passenger seats are narrower than the second row seats.
The driver has an eight-way adjustable seat with four-way lumbar support while the front passenger gets just four-way adjustment. The back of the third row bench seats can be folded down and the seat flipped up to increase cargo space which is 431 litres in standard configuration but can be expanded up to 5000 litres.
The second and third row seats can also be slid along tracks, up to 300mm each row, to vary legroom and load space as needed. The Hyundai Staria is equipped with Hyundai Smartsense, active safety driving assistance technologies. These include
- Blind-spot Collision Assist
- Blind-spot View Monitor
- Rear Cross Traffic Collision Assist
- Lane Keeping Assist
- Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go
- Forward Collision Avoidance Assist
- Safe Exit Assist
- Rear Occupant Alert
- High Beam Assist
- Parking Distance Warning
- Surround View Monitor

- Leading Vehicle Departure Alert
The MPV has a Smart key with Push Start Button. The key does the standard lock and unlock actions but it also opens and closes the sliding doors – left, right or both . There is also Remote Start which enables the driver to start the car from up to 50m away so the cabin is at a comfortable temperature by the time passengers get in.
The all-new Hyundai Staria Premium is
- RM358,888 with a two-year or 50,000km (whichever comes first) warranty
- or RM368,888 with a five-year or 300,000km (whichever comes first) warranty and three-years or 50,000km (whichever comes first) free maintenance service.
