Limited to only 62 units, the Proton X70 Merdeka Edition commemorates Malaysia’s 62nd anniversary independence
Not long since after launching the refreshed Proton Saga, the Proton-Geely alliance has brought out a new limited-edition X70 Merdeka Edition (ME) to commemorate Malaysia’s 62nd independence. The X70 ME will be only available in two colours; Snow White and Flame Red.
With only 62 units made, Proton Edar Sdn Bhd said that it will aim to sell each unit during the Merdeka Month of August, as they are confident of doing judging by current demand levels for the Proton X70.
Mechanically, the limited-run ME is similar to the regular X70 Premium with more distinctive features. The roof and A-pillars are painted in Quartz Black, door visors added all-around with a rear bumper scuff plate. To top it off, the Merdeka Edition badge is attached to the tailgate.
Priced at RM126,100, the limited-edition X70 comes with new floor mats, a trunk mat and a special numbered Merdeka Edition emblem to make each car unique. Moreover, Nappa leather seats and glass roof along with the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) found on the Premium 2WD variant are all carried over in the ME.
“The Proton X70 Merdeka Edition was born out of Proton’s desire to celebrate Malaysia’s Merdeka anniversary month. We are extremely thankful for the support Malaysian car buyers and the Malaysian government has shown to Proton, so this is the Company’s way of creating a special version of the Proton X70 as a small gesture of thanks to all Malaysians,” said Dr Li Chunrong, CEO of Proton.
Due to the small numbers, orders for the X70 Merdeka Edition is now open at selected authorised Proton Edar 3S and 4S centres nationwide including Sabah and Sarawak.
