Porsche unveils "base" 2019 911 Carrera for just under $480k

The 2019 Porsche 911 Carrera may not be as powerful as the bigger ‘S’ variant but comes with the same standard features

Porsche has recently unveiled the “base” 2019 911 Carrera which starts under SGD 480k. When the 992 generation Porsche 911 made its maiden debut late last year, Porsche only introduced the Carrera S versions. Now, Porsche has revealed the “base” 911 Carrera models in Coupe and Cabriolet forms. While the Carrera serves as the entry-point, the standard equipment is not much lesser than the S variants.

The 2019 Carrera comes with the same 3,0-litre biturbo boxer six-cylinder engine as in the S. This one makes 379 Hp and 448 Nm of torque, 17 more horsepower than the predecessor, while the S makes 62 horsepower and 83 Nm of torque more. According to Porsche, the turbochargers are downsized than in the Carrera S.

Mated to the 3.0-litre engine is an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission like in the Carrera S. Performance-wise the Carrera Coupe does 0-100 Km/h in 4.0 seconds and topping out at 296 Km/h. While the Convertible does its 0-100 sprint in 4.2 seconds and maxing out at 289 Km/h. Fitting the optional Sports Chrono Package cuts 0.2 seconds off the sprint. Porsche says that the Carrera Coupe consumes 9.4 l/100km and 9.6 l/100km for the Cabriolet. Both models fall under VES Band C2.

The base Carrera models come with 330mm brake rotors with four-pot monobloc callipers at all four corners, while customers can opt for the optional PCCB ceramic brakes too. Wheel wise, the Carrera comes with staggered alloy wheel sizes of 235/40 ZR19 and 295/35 ZR20 at the rear. Customers can head over to Porsche’s online car configurator to see the full list of options available.

Standard features in the Carrera are “virtually unchanged” from the Carrera S. These includes the 10.9-inch touchscreen display. Porsche Wet Mode and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) are standard as well. However, the rear-wheel steering and more advanced suspension setup are reserved for the Carrera S.

Porsche Asia Pacific Pte Ltd said that the prices of the Carrera start at SGD 478,788 and the 911 Carrera Cabriolet at SGD 544,488, and are open for orders.  Also, do take note that the all-wheel-drive version will be available soon. For Malaysia, Sime Darby Auto Performance Sdn. Bhd. (SDAP) has not announced prices or will be bringing the all-wheel-drive version of the Carrera to Malaysia.
