New Porsche 911 Carrera arrives in Malaysia

Eighth generation Porsche 911 Carrera comes in two- and four-wheel drive priced from RM1,150,000

The latest generation Porsche 911 has arrived in Malaysia in two options, the rear-wheel driven Carrera 2 and the all-wheel Carrera 4. Both are powered by a 3.0-litre flat-six turbocharged engine that produces 450bhp and 530Nm. The transmission is a recently developed new eight-speed dual-clutch (PDK) gearbox. 0-100 is in less than 4 seconds for both variants with a top speed of 308km/h for the Carrera S and 306km/h for the Carrera 4S.

The twin-turbochargers have been redesigned and are now mirrored for improved efficiency and the engine mountings have been re-sited closer to the gearbox to reduce flex and so, noise and vibration. A new feature in the 992 911 is Wet Mode which, through sensors above the front wheels, detects water levels on the road and adjusts stability control and the height of the rear wing to generate more downforce. The system will warn the driver who can then adjust vehicle settings either on the centre console or, if the Sport Chrono Package is fitted, on the mode switch on the steering wheel.

Other standard safety features are emergency braking aided by a camera-based warning and brake system, adaptive cruise control with automatic distance control, reversible occupant protection and autonomous Emergency Assist Function.

The outer skin of the body is aluminium. For the first time, both the two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions have a common body with 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rear wheels, newly-developed LED headlights and full-width single bar rear lamps above the variable-position spoiler. The rear air intake has vertically arranged louvres with the third brake light integrated as part of the design, at the centre. The rear-wheel drive models have black louvres while the all-wheel drive models have chrome elements in the rear grille.

The interior has been designed with an analogue rev counter while the rest of the driving information is on the digital instrument cluster, housed in two high-resolution seven-inch displays. Essential drive and chassis functions are accessed via a panel of five buttons under the 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment monitor located in the centre of the dashboard.

The new 911 Carrera S starts from RM1,150,000 while the new 911 Carrera 4S is from RM1,220,000.
