Two variants in initial launch of fourth generation compact hatchback: A250 AMG Line and A200 Progressive Line
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has launched the all-new A-Class with two variants offered, the 2.0-litre A250 AMG Line and the 1.3-litre A200 Progressive Line.
Both four-cylinder engines are new. The A250’s produces 224bhp and 350Nm while the A200’s 162bhp and 250Nm. Both are paired with Mercedes’s seven-speed dual clutch transmission with four driving modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual. The A250’s 0-100km/hr sprint time is 6.2 seconds with a top speed of 250km/h. Meanwhile the A200 takes 8.0 seconds, its top speed 225km/h.
The A-Class is now larger with a 30mm longer wheelbase. The overall length is 4419mm versus the 4292mm of the third gen hatch. The look is more angular, “predatory” has been used to describe the nose, with the starburst grille framed like that in the CLS. Echoes of the CLS can also be seen in the shoulder line and C-pillar. LED headlights are standard as are 18-inch rims.
The interior has been completely revamped and comes with a high-resolution widescreen cockpit, first seen in the S-Class, with touchscreen control. The instrument display is digital and can be configured in different styles – Classic, Understated or Sport mode – to the driver’s preference. The round air con vents have been dramatically redesigned to resemble aeroplane turbines.
The ambient lighting is available in a spectrum of 64 colours. The colours are also grouped into 10 colour “worlds” for a lighting display of colour changes which can be matched to the widescreen display styles.
The convenience of Keyless-Go is now a standard feature along with Active Parking Assist which helps the driver find a spot and manoeuvres the car in. Safety and assistance features include Pre-Safe positioning for the front seats, knee airbags, active brake assistance, reverse camera and automatic high beam control.
The star in the all-new A-Class is the equally all-new, state-of-the-art Mercedes-Benz User Experience infotainment interface that connects the driver with the car. Activated by calling out “Hey, Mercedes,”, the system is controlled through the touchscreen monitor, touchpad on the centre console and controls on the steering wheel. The multimedia system uses AI with the capability to recognise, understand and continually learn new commands. Multiple user-profiles can be created and personalised on MBUX.
The all-new A-Class A200 Progressive Line is RM227,888A, the 250 AMG Line is RM263,888. Both prices are on-the-road, without insurance, inclusive of 10% SST.
