Volkswagen’s flagship model, the Passat, is now available in Malaysia. Two engine variants are offered: a 1.8-litre paired with a seven-speed DSG gearbox in Trendline and Comfortline trim while the top-of-the-range Highline specification has a 2.0-litre mill, with a six-speed DSG gearbox, that produces 217bhp and 350Nm of torque with a 0-100km/h time of 6.7 seconds.
Standard across the range are the latest generation safety features: Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, six airbags, ESC, ABS and Brake Assist as well as Intelligent Crash Response System and hill-hold for easy hill-starts. For the safety of younger passengers, there are anti-pinch power windows and ISOFIX points for child seats. Lane Assist is an additional feature in the Highline.
Also as standard are automatic headlights and wipers, front and rear foglights, LED tail lamps, three zone Climatronic, push-button ignition, electronic parking brake.
The Passat Trendline comes with 16” alloys, halogen headlights, and Park Distance Control. The Passat Comfortline trim comes with 17” alloys and paddle shifts. Comfortline and Highline models are fitted with KESSY keyless entry, LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, 12-way adjustable, leather-upholstered memory front seats with massage function, Park Assist, Easy Open powered boot and a reverse camera.
With Easy Open, opening of the car boot can be activated by waving one’s foot near the sensor under the rear bumper to trigger its release. The boot lid opening height can also be adjusted.
The Passat Highline comes with 18” alloys and a host of additional features like a headlight washer system and Active Info Display, a digital instrument cluster that is interactive and fully customisable. There are five different themes and modes: Classic, Eco Mode, Driving Assistance Mode, Fuel Consumption Mode and Navigation mode. For added convenience, MirrorLink is available to access the apps on a smartphone via the 6.5-inch touchscreen entertainment system. Handling enhancements include Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) with Eco, Comfort, Normal, Sport and Individual driving modes, and Electronic Differential Lock (XDS) sportier cornering.
All customisations like seat and steering angle, thermostat and instrument panel layout settings can be stored in the driver’s key, ready to personalise the car to preset preferences when the key is detected.
The Passat is available in Pure White, Deep Black, Reflex Silver, Indium Grey, Crimson Red, Black Oak Brown and Harvard Blue.
All Volkswagen cars come with five years manufacturer’s warranty and five years roadside assistance. In addition, VPCM has announced that all eighth-generation Passats registered before the end of the year will also get five years free service.
The all-new Passat is assembled in Pekan and qualifies for EEV status. Passat Trendline is priced at RM159,990 while the Passat Comfortline and Passat Highline are priced at RM179,990 and RM198,990. Prices include 6% GST but not registration or insurance.
