Throwback single-seat Infiniti packs NISSAN leaf powertrain

Prototype 9 weighs 890kg and hits 62mph in 5.5sec

Infiniti will reveal a retro-inspired concept race car, the Prototype 9, at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Despite the car’s 1930s-style exterior, it’s powered by a 148bhp, 236lb ft electric powertrain also used by the second-generation Nissan Leaf, which is due to be revealed at the Frankfurt motor show in September. In the Prototype 9, this set-up enables a 0-62mph time of 5.5sec and a 105mph top speed.

The 890kg single-seater uses retro construction techniques, such as a steel ladder chassis and handmade body panels, and has leaf springs and no power steering. The car is said to imagine what an Infiniti grand prix racer would have looked like.
