Experience camping and off-roading close to Kuala Lumpur at Offroad in the City (ORIC)
Offroad in the City (ORIC) takes place from 30 May to 1 June. Make the best of the long weekend to go camping and take your four-wheel drive vehicle off-road without the long distance drive as ORIC is at Malaysia Agro Exhibition Park Serdang (MAEPS) in Selangor.
Owners of electric SUVs are welcome to come out to enjoy their vehicles in Camping Mode.
The gathering at MAEPS will consist of various off-road clubs, including regional groups. Traditionally, these off-road clubs organise excursions within their own group often to remote locations. ORIC brings these groups together in close proximity to Kuala Lumpur making the event more accessible and providing off-road enthusiasts the opportunity to share stories, build community bonds and network with other groups.
There are custom tracks of different levels of difficulty. In addition, two extreme off-road tracks which are strictly for winch-equipped vehicles. The tracks are designed by the International Rainforest Challenge (IRC) team.
Aside from dirt tracks, there will be other family-friendly activities. Land Rover enthusiasts will host an automotive boot sale offering rare parts and collectibles. There will also be a showcase of six of West Malaysia’s most exquisite, custom-built 4×4 rigs. The star of this showcase is a legendary automotive marvel: a Toyota Century V12 engine swapped into a classic Toyota 60 Series chassis.
Educational sessions and expert-led workshops will run throughout the weekend. Kit and Hafidz from The Nest@MAEPS, a local outdoor survival training centre, will conduct talks on crucial wilderness survival skills and campcraft techniques. There will also be a wildlife safety session led by Steven Wong, a renowned herpetologist and professional nature guide. His snake talk will teach attendees how to safely identify, respect, and coexist with reptiles during outdoor excursions.
There will also be food vendors at ORIC to keep campers and visitors well-fed throughout the weekend.
In addition, the Malaysia Bike Show, is on at the same time at MAEPS Halls A and C. If you’d like to check out Malaysia’s largest bike show, there is a complimentary tram shuttle from the ORIC-RFC-registration counter to Exhibition Hall C.
