New Isuzu D-Max also available with single cab with auto transmission, first in Malaysia
Isuzu Malaysia launched the Isuzu D-Max with a new 2.2-litre turbocharged engine to replace the 1.9-litre variant, also turbocharged. The flagship D-Max model is still the 3.0-litre X-Terrain. The introduction of this new engine variant brings two firsts to the Malaysia light-duty pick-up truck market:
- first single cab body with automatic transmission in the Malaysia market
- the entire 2.2-litre engine range complies with Euro 5 exhaust emission standards
The 2.2-litre diesel, paired with a new eight-speed automatic gearbox, offers several improvements over the 1.9, namely
- power
- torque
- driveability
- refinement
- fuel efficiency
- eco-friendliness
- reliability
The 2.2 produces 8.7 percent more power compared to the 1.9-litre engine at 163PS at 3,600rpm. In addition, torque output is improved by 14.3 percent, reaching 400Nm between 1,600rpm to 2,400rpm. The larger capacity engine will incur an additional RM172.00 in road tax. However, Isuzu Malaysia believes the benefits of the wide ranging improvements will offset the difference positively in favour of the new 2.2-litre pick-up.
Malaysia’s first single cab automatic pick-up has Rough Terrain mode, a standard features in all 4×4 models including the Single Cab 4×4 Manual. The automatic transmission is the same gearbox as in the other 2.2-litre trucks but with a revised final drive ratio to take into account the increased payload capabilities of the longer cargo bed.
Other details of the new 2.2-litre D-Max are the updated looks which include new light clusters, grille, rims and side steps.
Inside, there is a new 10-inch infotainment system for the X-Terrain, Premium and 4X2 Auto Plus variants. The Standard variant has a new seven-inch head unit and now comes with Tailgate Assist.
Prices start from RM103,121.20 on the road without insurance for the new Isuzu D-Max 2.2L Single Cab (M), going up to RM141,821.20 for the Isuzu D-Max 2.2L Premium 4×4. Two additional colours are now offered, Inishmore Green Metallic and Obsidian Grey Mica. The 2.2L Single Cab Auto is available in two colours, Mercury Silver Metallic and Splash White.
