Toyota Corolla GR Sport and updated 2023 Toyota Corolla debut in dual launch
The Toyota Corolla has been updated with a new Corolla GR Sport variant. There are now three varients in the model line-up: the E, G and GR Sport.
The Corolla GR Sport variant has the same 1.8-litre engine as the E and G variants. Based on the Corolla G, the Corolla GR Sport has exclusive styling features which give it a more aggressive appearance. There is a mesh-patterned radiator grille with a wider black lower section is wider black. There is also a front underbody protector which lowers the stance of the car. The auto-retractable door mirrors of the Corolla GR Sport have a black finish. The alloy wheels are 18-inch in Machine/Dark Grey Metallic finish. The wheels are also wider with 225/40R18 tyres.
The shock absorbers, rear coil springs and stabilisers are exclusive to the Corolla GR Sport, tuned for reduced roll, pitch and smoother suspension movement. Straightline stability has also been improved.
The interior is black. The body-hugging seats, an improved design, have red stitching with red side shoulder covers. There are also red highlights on the door trim. The GR Sport emblem is on the front seat head rest. It is also on the rear boot lid.
The Corolla GR Sport has the same safety features as the E and G. In addition, the GR Sport and G have Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) advanced safety technology. The safety features include seven airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, ABS, Vehicle Stability Control with Traction Control, and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution. The TSS suite consists of

- Steering Assist
- Lane Trace Assist with Lane Departure Alert (LDA)
- Automatic High Beam (AHB)
The GR Sport and G have blindspot monitoring. New to both variants is Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).
The Toyota Corolla has ASEAN NCAP five-star rating.
The Toyota Corolla E and G variant updates are new front grille design, new design alloy wheels, keyless entry on both front doors, the addition of wind visors on the doors and USB-C points. The Corolla E has 16-inch rims while the G gets 17-inch rims. The 1.8-litre engine which produces 137bhp and 172Nm maximum torque, paired with seven-speed CVT transmission, remains unchanged.
New in the updated Corolla 1.8G and also in the GR Sport is a 12.3-inch fully digital colour display. There are three MID (Multi Information Display) zones on the display panel, two of which are within the meters. The Corolla 1.8E get a standard meter package with a sporty appearance. The 4.2-inch MID has a TFT panel and colour display.
As before, there is a nine-inch display panel for the infotainment system which also shows images from the reverse camera. The infotainment system has Wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Ready Connectivity, as well as USB mirroring, AUX and Bluetooth.
The USB power port in the console box is now Type C, along with a separate 12V socket with a 120W supply. A wireless charger pad is provided in the Corolla 1.8G on the front console upper tray. There is a clip to prevent the smartphone from moving around.
The E has single-zone automatic air-conditioning while the G and GR Sport have dual-zone automatic air-conditioning as well as rear vents, leather-wrapped steering wheel with control switches, rain sensor wipers, electrochromic rearview mirror, rear sunshade (manual operation) and tinted door visors. There is also a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
The Corolla 1.8G and GR Sport come with dual Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) which record video of the road ahead and behind. There is also a standard 3D Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) which gives an overhead view of the car as well as from 4 sides for easier manoeuvring and parking.
Also standard is a Vehicle Telematics System (VTS) which uses GPS/GSM to track the location of the car at all times.
The Corolla GR Sport is available in three colours:
