Second generation Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 launched, only one trim level available
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has launched the all-new Mercedes GLC 300 4Matic in AMG Line spec. Only one spec level is offered at time of launch.
Technological refinements to the second generation GLC include 48-volt technology and an integrated starter-generation for smoother start-up and power boosts, extended wheelbase, upgraded headlamp technology, ‘transparent bonnet’, and the latest generation MBUX infotainment system.
The GLC 300 has a 1999cc engine from the current family of modular Mercedes engines. It produces 255bhp at 5800rpm and 400Nm of torque at 2000-3200rpm. The mild hybrid 48-volt motor is 17kW with 200Nm of torque. Acceleration to 100km/h takes 6.2 seconds with a top speed of 240km/h. The spring suspension comprises four links in front and multi-link independent rear.
The SUV is now longer by 60mm at 4716mm with the increase benefiting the wheelbase. It is also 4mm lower than the previous generation GLC. The width remains unchanged. The Cd has also been improved with drag reduced by 0.02 from 0.31 to 0.29. The boot space has also increased and is now 70 litres larger at 620 litres. The electric tailgate can be operated from either the ignition key, a switch on the driver’s door and the handle at the tailgate.
The upgraded Digital Light headlamp technology provides precision high-resolution light with targeted light distribution. It result is visibility for the driver without blinding other road users.
The 360-degree camera for Active Parking Assist and Parktronic is also utilised for off-road driving and the “transparent bonnet”, a virtual view of the GLC. The camera displays the view under the front of the vehicle of the front wheels and their steering position and any obstacles such as large stones or potholes. The camera offers the best possible all-round visibility and facilitates the full parking process. The central display shows the direct vehicle surroundings during the parking or manoeuvring process. The display is composed of four individual camera images from the front, rear and both sides of the vehicle, and includes a virtual bird’s eye view. In addition, the display shows different viewing angles such as front, rear or trailer mode. The driver at the wheel decides whether to park manually or hand control over to Active Parking Assist. The GLC 300 also has Downhill Speed Regulation.
In addition, there is a new off-road screen: two displays for clearly arranged information, controls and functions. Among other things, the driver’s display shows inclination, gradient, topographical altitude, geo-coordinates and a compass as well as road speed and engine speed when operation is with an internal combustion engine. In addition, the central display shows, for instance, the current position of the SUV on the terrain as well as the steering angle of the front wheels and, if rear-wheel steering is available, the steering direction of the rear wheels. All the driving functions relevant for off-road operation can be controlled very easily on one screen.
The AMG Line interior is Artico man-made leather in black with microcut microfibre and AMG sports pedals. he two-tone upholstery in ARTICO man-made leather in sienna brown black is also available for limited CBU units.
The dashboard has new flattened round nozzles, curved metal-structure finish centre console, 12.3-inch high resolution screen for the instrument cluster display and an 11.9-inch central display. The screen surfaces are angled towards the driver.
There is now GUARD 360° Vehicle protection: all-round monitoring of the vehicle’s surroundings. The anti-theft alarm system prevents break-in and tow-away protection. Other advanced safety features include Active Lane Keeping Assist that will actively intervene and perform a course-correcting steering intervention. Other notable safety systems include Blind Spot Assist, Active Brake Assist, and PRE-SAFE system.
