Ferrari 812 GTS is the most powerful production convertible in the market
The Ferrari 812 GTS has made its debut in Malaysia. The drop-top version of the 812 Superfast, the 812 GTS is the most powerful production convertible on the road. The 812 GTS is Ferrari’s first production series convertible with a front-mounted V12 engine since the 365 GTS4 in 1969.
The 6.5-litre, naturally-aspirated V12 produces 780bhp, and has a top speed of 340km/h. The 0-100km/h sprint is “less than three seconds” for the GTS while the Superfast does it in 2.9. A feat considering the convertible weighs 75kg more as a result of the reinforcements made to the chassis.
The 812’s retractable hard top opens in 14 seconds and at up to 45km/h. An electric rear screen acts as a wind-stop so the occupants can talk, even at high speeds, or just enjoy the sound of the V12 engine. Ferrari claims that once closed, the interior dimensions of the convertible are close to that of the Superfast. The exterior dimensions are the same.
The convertible has buttresses at the side that differentiate it from the coupé. The entire rear, consisting of the roof, tonneau cover and luggage compartment, was redesigned to incorporate the two buttresses beneath which the roof movement mechanism is stowed. When the roof is open, the panels are hidden under the tonneau cover.
The 812 GTS does not have the rear wheel arch by-pass duct that is in the Superfast. To create downforce, a triplane wing was integrated into the rear diffuser. In addition, drag was cut by using the air vents on top of the rear flank to efficiently channel excess pressure build-up out of the wheel well.
To minimise turbulence inside the cabin and aerodynamic noise when the roof is retracted, like in the LaFerrari Aperta, two small L-shaped flaps on the upper corners of the windscreen generate a vortex above the rear screen, avoiding excess pressure building up behind the occupants’ heads.
Driver assistance features in the Ferrari 812 GTS include: Version 5.0 of Ferrari’s Side Slip Angle Control, Virtual Short Wheelbase 2.0 system (PCV), Ferrari Peak Performance (FPP) and Ferrari Power Oversteer (FPO).
The 812 GTS is available from the base price of RM1,538,000 (before duties, customisation options, taxes and insurance). For more information or for a private viewing between now and 31 May, contact the Ferrari Malaysia Showroom.
