Volvo Cars have revealed the midlife refreshed S90 sedan and the V90 and V90 Cross Country estate models, with a slightly updated exterior design and a new sound system by Bowers and Wilkins as well as the addition Advanced Air Cleaner air filtration system. Moreover, the S90 and V90 models, as well as the XC40 now come with 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrain options.
The exterior updated involves a number of areas at the front and rear of both the S90 and V90, including new fog lights, new lower front bumper and a new spoiler design. While the V90 and V90 Cross Country received updated rear light cluster design including full LED signature lighting and sequential turn indicators. To match the new look, a range of new exterior colours and wheel designs are available options for personalisation.
In terms of the interior, there are no visual updates made aside from the upgraded Bowers and Wilkins audio system. Another new feature inside is an Advanced Air Cleaner with a PM 2.5 particle sensor. First developed for the Chinese market and now rolled out globally, this feature allows drivers to monitor interior air quality via the centre screen. Volvo Cars said that the Advanced Air Cleaner can clean the cabin air of almost all tiny particles within a few minutes.
Both the new Bowers & Wilkins audio system and the Advanced Air Cleaner technology are now available on all 90 and 60 Series models. Another note is that all 90 and 60 Series models now also come with double USB-C charging points in the rear, replacing the 12-volt outlets. The wireless charging functionality for smartphones, first introduced on the small XC40 SUV, is now also available on most variants in the 90 and 60 Series.
In terms of interior materials, the exclusively tailored wool-blend seats first introduced on the XC90 are now also available on all 90 and 60 models, while there is also a leather-free interior option for the top trim levels.
Besides the exterior and interior updates, all 90 and 60 Series cars, as well as the XC40 now get mild-hybrid drivetrains, including the V90 Cross Country. Volvo Cars say that its mild hybrids offer up to 15% fuel savings and emission reductions in real-world driving. While the brake-by-wire system interacts with the energy recovery system and reduces fuel consumption and emissions by recovering kinetic energy under braking.
Volvo Cars did not release details of when the mid-life refreshed S90 and V90 models, as well as the mild-hybrid drivetrains, will arrive in Malaysia.
