The all-new BMW 5 Series has been launched in Malaysia with the introduction of the 530i M Sport. Powered by a twin-scroll turbocharged, four-cylinder, 2.0-litre engine with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, the powertrain produces 252bhp and 350Nm of torque. The 0-100km/h time is 6.2 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h. The 530i M Sport is fitted with M Sport accessories: M Sport brakes and blue M-styled callipers, M Aerodynamics body kit, sports seats and M door sill finishers, M foot pedals and M leather steering wheel.
The latest generation of the premium executive saloon is marginally larger than its predecessor with a body that is 29mm longer, 8mm wider and 15mm taller, with a 7mm longer wheelbase. The boot has increased in volume to 530 litres.
The new body is a lightweight construction of aluminium, high-strength steel and magnesium that has reduced overall weight by almost 100kg while improving safety, driving dynamics and fuel efficiency.
Aerodynamics have also been improved to a Cd of 0.22 which gives this the best drag coefficient of any saloon from having features like the active air stream kidney grille, air breathers, and air curtains on the front wheels to reduce wind resistance.
The full-LED adaptive headlights with LED daytime running lights have been enhanced with directional headlights and a high beam with a range of 500m. Other new driver assistance features are rear view camera, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Warning, Approach Control Warning & Person Warning with City Brake functions, Cross-Traffic Warning Rear, Prevention of Rear Collision, and Speed Limit Info with Intelligent Speed Limit Assist paired with Active Cruise control which uses radar to read and adjust the speed of the car according to traffic conditions. It can also bring it to a complete stop if necessary.
There is also a new drive mode, Adaptive, in addition to Comfort, Sport and Eco Pro modes. Adaptive mode first appeared in the Rolls-Royce Wraith, part of BMW AG, and uses the satellite navigation system to see the road ahead and prepare the steering, dampers and gearbox for it, according to driving style and the route ahead.
The instrument panel is now LCD with the capability to display information from various features in front of the driver: check control warnings and details from the Driver Assistance features, messages and status updates from the Entertainment and Communications functions as well as Navigation and Service Information.
BMW Gesture Control has been introduced, allowing the use of hand movements to operate functions like the airconditioning without physically touching the switches, enabling the driver to keep their eyes on the road ahead.
Making its debut in the 5 Series is the BMW Display Key with LCD colour display. The touch control panel shows information about the vehicles status and allows selected functions to be controlled via the integrated touch display.
The car is offered in four colours: Black Sapphire, Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect, Aline White and Mediterranean Blue. All exterior colours are matched with leather Dakota upholstery with contrast stitching. The BMW 5 Series comes with 19-inch rims, 20” wheels as options, all with Run-flat tyres fitted as standard.
The all-new BMW 530i M Sport is RM398,800.00 on the road, without insurance. It comes with BMW Group Malaysia’s latest 5 years Unlimited Mileage Warranty, Free Scheduled Service Programme and BMW Tyre Warranty Programme.
