Volvo launches XC60 T8 Twin Engine SUV in Malaysia

The fully-imported Volvo SC60 T8 Twin Engine SUV has been launched in Malaysia.

The flagship four-wheel drive plug-in hybrid combines a turbo- and supercharged petrol engine with an electric motor which drives the rear axle. The total output is 407bhp: 320bhp from the internal combustion engine and 87bhp electric motor. The torque produced is 640Nm, 400Nm from the internal combustion engine with 240Nm from the electric motor. The 0-100km/h time is 5.3seconds with a fuel consumption of 2.1litres/100km. The pure electric range is 45km. The

IntelliSafe comes standard in the new XC60 and include the usual staple of active, preventive and protective safety systems such as City Safety (Autonomous Emergency Braking), BLIS (Blind Spot Information System), and Rear Collision Warning and Mitigation, just to name a few.

Both City Safety and BLIS now feature Steer Assist, a system that provides automatic steering assistance that will – when required – avoid potential collisions. City Safety detects and helps avoid collisions with other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and large animals.

Oncoming Lane Mitigation is a new system in the new XC60; it helps drivers avoid collisions with vehicles in an oncoming lane by alerting, and if necessary, provide automatic steering assistance to guide the car out of the path of the oncoming vehicle.

Another feature in the new XC60 is Volvo’s Pilot Assist – an advanced semi-autonomous driver assistance system which takes care of steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads up to 130 km/h, will also be available in the new XC60.

Five exterior colour options are available: Ice White, Bright Silver, Osmium Grey, Onyx Black and Maple Brown. The fully-imported units will be offered with Charcoal leather interior while a second leather upholstery colour, Maroon Brown, will be offered for the Malaysia-assembled units.

The new XC60 T8 Twin Engine is available in Inscription and Inscription Plus trim. While the equipment levels are identical, the Inscription Plus will have a Bowers & Wilkins 1100watt, 15-speaker sound system with a 10-channel Class-D amplifier. The Inscription Plus is priced at RM373,888 (on-the-road without insurance, including all applicable taxes) while the XC60 T8 Twin Engine Inscription is priced at RM363,888. Both are fully-imported from Sweden.

When deliveries of the locally-assembled XC60 commence in April of this year, a T5 variant will join the line up. The T5 will be powered by a turbocharged internal combustion engine and electric motor that will provide a combined output of 254bhp and 350 Nm of torque. The CKD T8 will also be offered in  Inscription and Inscription Plus trim levels with 19-inch alloy wheels; while the T5 will be offered in a single trim level with 18-inch alloy wheels.

  • XC60 T8 Twin Engine Inscription Plus: RM343,888
  • XC60 T8 Twin Engine Inscription: RM333,888
  • XC60 T5: RM298,888
