Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) is recalling 6671 cars over faulty airbag gas generator housings in Takata airbags . The models affected are the sixth generation Golf GTI, Eos, Passat CC, Polo, Beetle and Vento, produced between 2010 and 2014.
High air humidity and temperature fluctuations over a long period of time may cause the deterioration of the generator’s propellant in the front driver airbag. This could lead to potential injury on the driver and passenger.
VPCM and dealer partners have the parts available. The nationwide Volkswagen recall is in phases to manage the number of cases and ensure the recall is smooth and efficient.
Owners will be notified by email and WhatsApp based on the current Volkswagen database. If you are not the first owner of your Volkswagen, contact the nearest Volkswagen authorised dealer to check if your car is affected. Alternatively, all Volkswagen owners can go to https://www.volkswagen.com.my/volkswagen-service/repair-and-service/service-action and key in the 17-digit VIN number of the car. The VIN number is at the bottom left of the windscreen.
All labour and replacement parts for this recall will be at no cost to owners.
