Second generation VW Tiguan makes Malaysian debut

The second generation of the Volkswagen Tiguan has been launched in Malaysia. Available in one variant, 1.4 TSI is paired with a six-speed Direct Shift Gearbox that produces  148bhp and 250Nm of torque, and is capable of doing 0-100km/h in 8.9 seconds.

The all-new SUV is bigger all-round and is lower in height to its predecessor. It has won numerous accolades including the German Design Awards 2017, and the Innovation Award under the prestigious Plus X Award. The Tiguan is Volkswagen’s most popular SUV with more than 2.8 million units sold worldwide.

Two trim levels are offered, Comfortline and Highline, both of which have an alarm with immobiliser, automatic rain sensors, automatic headlights, front fog lamps with cornering lights, leather multi-function steering wheel, LED tail lamps paddleshifts and front and rear parking sensors.

Standard safety features are six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Brake Assist (BA), Multi-collision brakes, Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS), Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) as well as hill-hold control. For child safety, the Tiguan also comes with anti-pinch power windows and ISOFIX anchorage point for child seats.

The Comfortline comes with fabric seats, black roof rails, 17″ Montana alloy wheels, Composition Media eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, halogen headlights and colour Multifunction Display.

The Highline has partial leather “Vienna” upholstery, chrome roof rails, 18″ Kingston alloy wheels, LED headlights and LED daytime running lights, keyless entry and push-button ignition, tri-zone airconditioning, cruise control with speed limiter, Discover Media eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, electric tailgate, Park Assist and a rear view camera. Rear passengers also have the convenience of foldable tables that can be set to four different angles

Also exclusive to the Highline is an interactive and customisable Active Info Display with a 12.3-inch full colour, high resolution TFT  digital instrument cluster. There are six preset themes and modes for the display to suit the driver’s preferences: Classic, Speed & Gear, Consumption & Range, Efficiency, Navigation and Offroad.

Five colours are available – Pure White, Deep Black, Atlantic Blue, Tungsten Silver and Indium Grey.

The all-new Tiguan is assembled locally in Pekan, has been awarded Energy Efficient Vehicle certification. The Comfortline is priced RM148,990 while the Highline is RM168,990. The Tiguan comes with five years’ manufacturer’s warranty and five years’ roadside assistance.

Over the weekend of 7-9 April, Volkswagen will be holding their nationwide dealer open house event with a variety of activities for the family, even the littles ones. Refreshments will be served and the Tiguan will be available for test drive.
