Perodua EV prototype is a working model, based on a converted Perodua Myvi

Perodua’s EV prototype has been unveiled. The EV prototype, named the eM01, is a working model based on a converted Perodua Myvi and will be the foundation of the car maker’s electrification technology. In 2023, Perodua announced their EV plans with a scale model at the Malaysia Autoshow.

The prototype has three main parts, the power bench, the power converter and overall styling and design. Perodua engineers worked with Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Universiti Kuala Lumpur, and Universiti Putra Malaysia to develop the power bench. Meanwhile, the engineers also worked with an Australian company to develop the power conversion technology. The total budget allocated was RM2million.

The four-seater weighs around 1400kg. It is a working model with 3-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor, producing up to 120kW and 220Nm of torque. The battery is a 55.7kWh lithium ion Manganese Cobalt cell. For charging, there is a CCS2 socket with 11kW AC and 50kW DC fast charging capability.

Perodua aims to launch their affordable EV in 2025.
