New Chery O5 launched in Malaysia, now RM117k

New Chery O5, revised name, updated drivetrain, equipment and looks for RM2k less

The new Chery O5 is now in Malaysia. The former Chery Omoda 5 is now called the Chery O5 and costs RM2000 less at RM116,800 despite several upgrades and updates.

These include a new six speed dual-clutch transmission replacing the nine-speed CVT for faster gear shifts and higher torque capacity. Engine output remains unchanged at 156PS, 230Nm of torque.

Other updates include

• new multi-link independent rear suspension (from torsion beam) which is a first in this segment
• increase to three drive modes (from two previously)
• new Pixel Diamond front grille design
• X-shaped front bumper
• arrow-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights with Sequential Turn Signals
• new 18-inch alloy wheel design
• 20.5-inch integrated dual screen 
• upgraded frameless rear view mirror
• dual temperature light vanity mirrors on the sun visors

Comfort features include front ventilated seats for both both front seats, six-way driver powered seat and four-way front passenger powered seat, wireless mobile charging, and a front centre armrest with cooling storage.

There is also a Sony eight-speaker audio system, 64 dynamic multi-coloured ambient lighting, power sunroof, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Safety remains unchanged with a 78% High-Strength Steel body, six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) as well as 540° HD panoramic camera, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and Intelligent Headlight Control.

Like the Omoda 5 before, the new Chery O5 has a five-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.

Unchanged are the dimensions of the Chery O5 at 4400mm long, 1830mm wide, 1588mm high with and a wheelbase of 2630mm. The boot is 442-litres.

The new Chery O5 comes in Carbon Black, Phantom Grey, Khaki White, Blood Stone Red. The standard warranty package is seven-years or 150,000km (whichever comes first) and five years free service, labour only.

For the launch Chery Malaysia is offering three-years free service (all-inclusive)* worth RM4000, 10-years warranty or up to 1,000,000km* which ever comes first (worth RM2000) and an instalment plan with Maybank at RM990/month*.

Since 2023, over 13,000 units of the Chery Omoda 5 has been sold in Malaysia. The new Chery O5 is available in 38 countries worldwide including Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Italy, Poland, and Mexico. This year, between January to April, over 44,769 units have been sold.
