MG Malaysia previews MG5 saloon with Cyberster roadster

MG Malaysia also previewed the MG HS SUV and there was a surprise viewing of the Cyberster convertible

MG Malaysia had a media preview of the MG5 saloon and MG HS SUV with a surprise look at the Cyberster roadster although no specs were given for the MG Cyberster (images below). The MG5 is estimated to be below RM100,000.

The MG5 is a B-segment saloon, competing in the same category as the Honda City and Toyota Vios. MG boasts that it is the longest and widest saloon in the segment at 4675mm long, 1842mm width and a wheelbase of 2680mm.

The car has a fastback coupé design, ducktail spoiler, 3D front grille and power sunroof. It comes with automatic LED headlights with daytime running lights and 17-inch Tomahawk alloy wheels.

Power is from a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine that produces 112bhp and 150Nm of torque with an eight-speed iCVT gearbox. MG claims that the powertrain has undergone a 2.35million kilometre durability test.

The MG5 has MG Pilot driver assist safety features. This includes:

• Lane Departure Warning
• Lane Change Assist
• Blind Spot Detection
• Rear Collision Warning
• Rear Cross Traffic Alert

There are also standard passive safety features like

• Electronic Stability Program
• Anti-Lock Brake system (ABS)
• Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
• Traction and Cornering Brake controls
• six SRS Airbags

The driver’s seat has six-way electrical adjustments with manual lumbar support. The upholstery is black with red accent leather. There is a three-spoke leather steering wheel with integrated controls. Meanwhile, the driver-oriented dashboard includes

• fully digital seven-inch LCD virtual cockpit
• 10.25-inch floating infotainment system
• Apple Carplay and Android Auto

Also, single zone digital air-conditioning with PM 2.5 Air Filter, 360º view camera and three USB ports.

Five colours will be available:

• Nuclear Yellow
• Dynamic Red
• Arctic White
• Black Pearl
• Camden Grey

MG5 has a comprehensive warranty package, including five years with Unlimited Mileage Warranty (whichever comes first) on the vehicle, and seven years with Unlimited Mileage Warranty (whichever comes first) on the powertrain (engine and transmission).
