Mercedes-Maybach EQS 650 all-electric SUV, custom exterior and exterior

The Mercedes-Mayback EQS 650 is now in Malaysia. The ultra-luxury SUV is the first all-electric model from Mercedes-Maybach.

The output from the electric motor is 484kW or 658bhp with 950Nm of torque. Zero to 100km/h is 4.4 seconds with a top speed of 210km/h. The 118kWh high voltage battery takes 31 minutes to charge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent on a 200kW DC charger. On an AC charger, charging at 22kW, 0 to 100 per cent takes 6 hours 15 minutes.

Exterior elements include

• signature three-pointed star on the bonnet
• black panel front grille that denotes that it is a Mercedes EV
• chrome-plated filigree slats over the air intake
• Mercedes Digital Light headlamps
• Maybach emblem illuminated running boards
• Maybach emblem on the D-pillar

Airmatic air suspension with continuously adjustable damping ADS+ is standard. Maximum ground clearance is 25mm. The rear-axle steering with a steering angle of up to 10 degrees reducing the turning circle by almost two metres. There are 21-inch Maybach multi-spoke light-alloy wheels with Maybach letter on the wheel hub caps.

The Dynamic Select driving programmes are Eco, Sport, Offroad and Individual. There is also the special Maybach drive programme which replaces the Comfort programme in other Mercedes models. Maybach drive provides maximum driving comfort for rear passengers with minimal body movements under the rear seat. An oscillation node is located there, so that the amplitudes are at their lowest. The Maybach driving programme is the standard drive setting.

The EQS 650 has Driving Assistance Package Plus Advanced Driver Assistance System features. This includes:

• Active Distance Assist Distronic
• Active Steering Assist
• Active Blind Spot Assist

The EQS 650 has two-tone paintwork distinctive to the Maybach brand. The available colour combinations are:

• high-tech silver/obsidian black
• high-tech silver/nautical blue
• obsidian black/selenite grey
• obsidian black/kalahari gold
• velvet brown/onyx black

There is also the Night Series package which consists of dark chrome elements and surfaces on the car. Each headlight has a Maybach emblem in rose gold, with dark chrome refinements. Darkened Maybach pinstripes enhance the grille panel, while a dark chrome-plated pattern of the Maybach emblem refines the air intake inserts in the front bumper. The side windows feature highly polished, 3D black edging. The running boards are black with a Maybach emblem in dark chrome. The 21-inch 7-spoke light-alloy wheels are styled with inserts of the Maybach pattern.

The Night Series package available with the following exterior colours:

• obsidian black/mojave silver two-tone paint finish

There are automatic comfort doors at the front and rear, both for opening and closing. The driver’s door opens automatically from about 1.5 metres as the driver approaches. All other doors can be opened and closed remotely via MBUX. The feature can also be deactivated via the MBUX central display

Inside, the interior is a contrast of open pore wood trims and piano lacquer back, sustainably-processed nappa leather upholstery. There are display screens for the instrument cluster, and MBUX infotainment units. There are three display styles(discreet, sporty, MAYBACH) and three modes (navigation, assistance, service). The rear seat passengers have MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment content and can access the same features through two 11.6-inch displays on the backrests of the front seats. The MBUX rear tablet has MBUX Interior Assist uploaded. The tablet can also be used outside the cabin. The Maybach emblem is throughout the interior including the inner lining of the tailgate when the boot is open.

There is a Burmester 4D surround sound system which features Dolby Atmos immersive audio experience. The system features 15 speakers: two bass speakers in the front footwell, one midrange and one tweeter in each door, two 3D speakers in the headliner, two surround speakers in the luggage compartment cover, and a center speaker in the instrument panel. There are also two exciters in each seat. Passengers in the front passenger seat and in the rear can also apply the 4D sound to the audio content of the headphones. The sound can also be adjusted to individual MBUX user profiles.

The NVH counter-measures in the EQS 650 include special accoustic foams in selected body shell profiles and the ramps in the underbody paneling.

The front centre console extends to the rear where there are Executive seats. Like the front seats, the rear seats have several comfort features such as ventilation, massage function including calf muscles, and neck and shoulder heating. With the Chauffeur Package, as soon as the right rear passenger chooses the reclining position, the front passenger seat automatically moves forward to the chauffeur position. The massage programmes are also available as part of the Energising Comfort package.

For the rear seat passengers, there are two thermal cup holders and a shelf for the MBUX rear tablet. There are also four fast-charging USB-C ports as well as wireless chargers, and two HDMI interfaces. The two folding tables transform the cabin into an office on wheels. An optional extra for the centre console is a refrigerated compartment with space for champagne bottles and bespoke flute holders.
