GAC Malaysia has launched the GAC Emkoo crossover, available in Premium and Premium Pro trim levels.
The difference between the Premium and Premium Pro is in equipment levels. These are the key differences: the Premium Pro has a panoramic roof with sunshade, larger 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster, leather steering wheel and 12-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat. Both the driver’s and front passenger seats are ventilated. The Premium has a seven-inch LCD instrument cluster, leatherette steering wheel and six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat without ventilation in either front seat.
The front wheel-drive, C-segment crossover is 4680mm long with a wheelbase of 2750mm. The height is 1670mm and the width 1901mm. The Emkoo comes with 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
The Emkoo has a fastback silhouette. The front grille has an outward radiating V-pattern flanked by matrix-style LED headlights which consist of 32 individual LED units on each side which provide 25% brighter lighting. There is also an intelligent high beam control system which automatically switches between high and low beam for optimal visibility on the road.
At the rear, the Emkoo has a distinctive light pattern featuring four vertical tail light strips which when combined with turbo jet-style exhausts gives the Emkoo an unmistakable appearance.
Both variants are powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that produces 177PS and 270Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed wet clutch dual-clutch transmission. 0-100km/h is 8.8 seconds to a top speed of 190km/h. There are three drive modes: Economy, Comfort and Sport.
The GAC Emkoo comes with Adaptive Vehicle Dynamic Control (AVDC) which monitors driver input and vehicle movement in real time and adjusts adjusts engine power, steering and braking to improve ride and handling in traffic and curves. AVDC gives the driver better control over the car’s handling and also makes the ride more comfortable for passengers. The driver has the option of four AVDC drive modes, Off Mode, Stable Mode, Radical Mode and Adaptive Mode, according the road conditions. Each mode will tailor the vehicle’s dynamic response to suit various driving styles and road conditions.
Safety-wise the Emkoo has ASEAN NCAP five-star safety rating. There are six airbags including extended side curtain airbags which are proprietary to GAC. The extended side curtain airbags maintain inflated pressure longer, up to six seconds, for better protection. There is also a full suite of Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features with Full Automatic Parking Assist (FAPA) which is able to park the Emkoo in a range of parking situations.
The list of safety features include:
