Ford “Driving Skills for Life” at Han Chiang College, Penang

Ford Motor Company held its global Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) programme for almost 50 students at Han Chiang College in Penang to raise road safety awareness in Malaysia.

The free workshop, organised in partnership with Ford distributor partner, Sime Darby Auto Connexion, took place over four half-day sessions and was timed to prepare the students going home for the long Merdeka weekend break.

The driving workshop was specially tailored to address challenges faced by young drivers, such as inexperience in dealing with unexpected situations, distracted driving, and the importance of ensuring child seats are securely fastened.

Ford’s DSFL programme encourages safe driving by equipping participants to make the correct decisions when behind the wheel, to reduce the chance of accidents occurring.

DSFL sessions start in the classroom, with participants learning about a range of topics from steering control, to tips for highway driving and driving in the rain as well as fuel-saving tips.

Participants also learn about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or medication, by wearing specially designed goggles that helps simulate the experience of driving while movement, coordination and alertness are impaired. Participants then move outdoors for a hands-on driving session to apply the learnings.

DSFL is Ford’s flagship global corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. In Asia, Ford DSFL is now in its tenth successful year of training licensed drivers of all ages, free-of-charge. More than 85,000 drivers have participated across six countries in the ASEAN region, including Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Myanmar.
