First Porsche assembly line outside Europe opens in Kulim

Porsche assembly of Cayenne SUV in Kulim

Porsche AG and Sime Darby celebrated the landmark first-ever Porsche assembly line outside of Europe with the roll out the first Malaysian-assembled Porsche Cayenne. The Cayenne is right-hand drive and only for the Malaysian market, equipped with exclusive standard equipment. A specially curated Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur option package, a special Porsche Design timepiece and wide range of lifestyle-oriented Tequipment accessories are available.

The Sime Darby facility in Kulim has a 100 per cent Malaysian workforce, all of whom have received comprehensive training from Porsche. The plant supports a network of local suppliers and service providers in the area and will provide job opportunities, up-skilling prospects and potential for expansion with a pipeline of jobs for the local community.

The plant is environmentally friendly with solar panels on the roof to provide all the power needed for operations. There is also rainwater harvesting.

The Raja Muda of Kedah, Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Ibni Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin officiated at the event. Also present were Menteri Besar of Kedah Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Haji Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, members of the Board and Management of Sime Darby Berhad, and members of the Executive Board and Management of Porsche AG and Porsche Asia Pacific.

These included Sime Darby Berhad Group Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Jeffri Salim Davidson, Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG, Albrecht Reimold, Member of the Executive Board for Production and Logistics at Porsche AG.

Also in attendance were Senior Minister and Minister of MITI, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Datuk Arham Abdul Rahman, MIDA CEO.
