Elantra facelift makes bold entry in Malaysia

Updated Elantra sees numerous updates including to its length. Single variant, the 2.0-litre Executive, now on sale at RM109,888

The new Hyundai Elantra has made its debut in Malaysia with so many updates and refinements that it’s best described as redesigned. The chassis of high-strength steel and the wheelbase are the same but the overall length has increased: 70mm longer than before, at 4620mm.

The sheetmetal has been reworked and there are new triangular headlights, tail lights and rear fog lamps as well as a new large radiator grille. Other changes include a two-tone rear bumper and the number plate repositioned lower, on the bumper. The alloy wheels are 17-inch two-tone wheels. There is also chrome moulding on the beltline.

Inside, the cabin has a new sporty chequered cluster meter design, a newly designed multifunctional steering wheel with control buttons, all-black leather and soft-touch dashboard.

Introduced in the Elantra is a new Smart Drive Mode system that identifies the driver’s handling style and automatically selects driving mode – Normal or Sport – matching the driver’s needs.

Features carried forward are a multimedia system that is equipped with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, segment-exclusive Hands-free Smart Trunk, a six airbag system along with Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Traction Control, ABS, a rear-view camera, Parking Guidance System, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and Hill-start Assist Control.

Also unchanged are the powertrain and transmission: a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine, which delivers 152bhp at 6,200 rpm and 192Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm and is paired with Hyundai’s 6-speed automatic transmission.

The new Elantra 2.0-litre Executive is RM109,888.00, on-the-road, without insurance. Five colours are offered: Phantom Black, Fiery Red, Teal Blue, Fluid Metal and Polar White. In addition to the 5 colours, limited edition colours such as Stargazing Blue and Sparkling metal are also available for a limited period of time in conjunction with the official launch.
