Digi’s Road Safety Programme 2019

Using iFleet telematics to help commercial vehicle drivers improve their safety on the road

In 2017, there were more than 2 million* vehicles a day on the road on average. Of these, more than 800,000 motor vehicles were involved in road crashes,  more than 10 per cent of which resulted in road fatalities. The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research found that human error was the cause of 80 per cent of the crashes, citing risky driving, speeding and fatigue as the contributing factors.

Digi’s Road Safety Programme is for commercial vehicle drivers from small and medium enterprises. Through the use of telematics software iFleet by Digi, data of their driving habits will be monitored and collected. The aim is to use the information to improve commercial drivers’ awareness of their driving behaviour and increase the over the long term and raise overall road safety standards.

iFleet is a fleet management software from Digi. It has features such as GPS tracking, mobile digital video recorders, in-vehicle Wi-Fi and fuel monitoring systems. iFleet is also capable of generating accident reconstruction reports. The technology can be used to improve road safety by monitoring driver behaviour, collecting vehicle data like its location, speed, acceleration, braking and cornering. The data can then be used to improve vehicle safety on the road as part of Digi’s Road Safety Programme 2019.

Three comprehensive initiatives are part of the Programme which will start, train and sustain safety habits among commercial vehicle drivers:

  • Start with the RM10 million iFleet Transformation Fund

Where 1,000 SMEs will receive up to RM10,000 each in discounts to kickstart their road safety journey by transforming their fleet with GPS Tracking, Wi-Fi and Video capabilities.

  • Train with defensive driving professionals

Where drivers are equipped with a variety of techniques to prevent road crashes, and will each receive an official certificate of completion. Participating SMEs are entitled to a 15% discount off all training workshops, which are also 100% HRDF claimable.

  • Sustain safe driving culture with driver rewards

Where the 10 safest drivers from each qualifying SME will be rewarded with Digi prizes for their excellent driving behaviour, based on their iFleet driving scores for the month.

Digi’s Road Safety Programme 2019 is supported by the Ministry of Transport, Road Safety Department of Malaysia (JKJR) and MIROS. iFleet is Digi’s fleet management solution which provides real-time vehicle and driver behaviour information. The Programme is open to all SMEs, and will run from now until 31 December 2019.
