Continental tyres now fully EV-compatible

Continental tyres designed to be fully compatible with EVs

Continental Tyre Malaysia has announced that all Continental tyres across various segments
are specifically designed to be fully compatible with EVs. The tyres are:

  • SportContact SC7
  • MaxContact MC7
  • UltraContact UC7
  • ComfortContact CC7
  • EcoContact EC6/EC6 Q

EVs are projected to represent 20 per cent of Malaysia’s total industry volume by 2030. It is crucial for EV owners that their tyres are optimised for electric mobility to ensure safety, comfort, and efficiency

However, not all tyres available in the market are suitable for electric vehicles. EVs are heavier than internal combustion-engined cars. When assessing whether a tyre is suitable for an electric vehicle, features such as load and speed indexes of the tyre should be considered as these affect the ability to handle the increased vehicle weight, traction and grip. Furthermore tyre design is important to maximise energy efficiency. In addition to compatibility, Continental offers advanced noise breaker technology. Since EVs produce less noise, other sounds can become more noticeable, making quiet tyres essential for a serene driving experience.

Continental is the original equipment (OE) fitment on EVs from many car manufacturers, including

  • BMW
  • BYD
  • Kia
  • Mercedes-Benz
  • Renault
  • Smart
  • Volvo
