Jaecoo J7 PHEV now in Malaysia, RM159k

Jaecoo J7 PHEV up to 1300 kilometres NEDC range

Jaecoo J7 PHEV is now in Malaysia, the first country in South-East Asia to launch the plug-in hybrid model. Only one variant is available: two-wheel, front wheel drive. The J7 PHEV is the second model from Jaecoo after the J7 petrol which is available in 2WD and AWD.

The J7 PHEV is powered by Jaecoo’s Super Hybrid System. The SHS comprises a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine; single speed dedicated hybrid transmission and a 18.3kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate Blade battery. The petrol engine delivers 141bhp and 215Nm of torque.

The pure electric range is 106km (NEDC). The combined, range is up to 1300km (NEDC) from a single tank and a single charge.

There is a smart battery management system which never lets the charge fall below 20 per cent. This, according to Jaecoo, guarantees optimal battery health and performance throughout its life cycle. The battery is rated to last up to 1 million km. It is also fortified with 780 mpa battery armour to prevent discharge in the event of a collision. It is also puncture-proof.

In addition, the battery is resistant to dust and water, with a IP68 rating. This is the highest standard rating on the IP scale. The J7 PHEV’s battery is water resistant and designed to withstand extreme temperatures and flooding – Malaysian weather conditions. For the first time in a PHEV, there is fast DC charging. This enables a boost of up to 40 kW from 30 per cent to 80 per cent in 20 minutes. At home, the AC wall box (purchased separately) charging at 6.6kW goes from 0 to 100 per cent in less than 4 hours.

The driver can select whether to drive in all-electric EV mode or to allow the vehicle to decide on the optimal mode based on driving conditions. The J7 PHEV has two power modes, three driving modes and three power saving modes. The Intelligent Drive Modes system gives drivers the freedom to either maximise petrol savings and extend range or enjoy maximum power which is 255 kW and 525Nm. The mode selection is made via a button on the centre console.

The Jaecoo J7 PHEV has eight airbags and Level 2.5 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) which includes features such as

  • Driver Monitoring System
  • Lane Departure Prevention
  • Adaptive Cruise Control

The J7 PHEV is available in Khaki White, Carbon Crystal Black and Moonlight Silver. Khaki White is a limited-edition option with only 100 units available. A notable difference between the petrol J7 and the PHEV is the service intervals. The J7 PHEV service is 15,000km or 12 months whichever comes first which is good news for lower mileage drivers.

The Jaecoo J7 PHEV Premium SUV (2WD) is RM158,800 on-the-road without insurance.  It comes with a seven-year engine warranty* or up to 150,000km mileage* and an eight-year warranty or up to 160,000km mileage on its battery, power motor and power motor controller unit. The eight-year warranty provides a 1-to-1 exchange* when the state of health (SOH) of the battery falls below 70 per cent during the warranty tenure.

There is a special early bird launch package which is for existing J7 PHEV bookings as well as bookings placed up to 2nd March 2025. The package provides a 10-year warranty* or up to 1,000,000km* mileage extended engine and high voltage battery warranty. This reflects Jaecoo’s confidence in the J7 PHEV’s Super Hybrid System and battery. All J7 PHEVs also come with a complimentary Vehicle to Load (V2L) charger.
