Chery Group milestone: 15 million cars globally – and counting

Chery Group milestone celebrated as 15 millionth car rolls off production line

Chery Group achieved a milestone of producing its 15 millionth vehicle as cars rolled off its production lines simultaneously in Egypt, Brazil, Kazakhstan and Malaysia. The manufacturer has been producing cars for over 27 years using cutting-edge technology and world-class manufacturing processes to global standards.

The Chery factory opened in Shah Alam earlier this year although local assembly began in 2023 with the introduction of the Tiggo 8. The SUV is still currently assembled in the Inokom plant in Kulim, Kedah. Malaysia is Chery’s right-hand drive market production hub as the brand expands across five continents.

In Wuhu, China a special ceremony was held. Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Group shared, “Reaching 15 million vehicles is not just about increasing production numbers or accelerating Chery’s growth. It represents relentless innovation—turning the impossible into reality and pushing the possible into even greater potential.”

Chery strategy towards the next 15 millionth car will centre on building the brand’s user experience, advanced technology and global expansion. The goal is to boost sales, enhance product quality, optimise structure, and elevate brand value with more exciting, diverse, and distinctive choices.

The Tiggo 8 was the 15 millionth vehicle. It rolled off the production line at Chery’s Brazil factory in a globally synchronised event. Globally, the series has surpassed one million units in sales.

The Tiggo series is available across regions and is one of Chery’s leading models worldwide. Various models of the series are available in Brazil, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Ecuador. The series has won several awards including South Africa’s 2023 Motor Enthusiasts’ Choice award, Mexico’s Top Midsize SUV, and the Philippines’ Best Midsize Crossover at the recent 19th Annual C! Awards.

Global Sales Momentum

Chery’s first vehicle rolled off the line on December 18, 1999. Since then, the company has maintained its position as China’s top passenger car exporter for 21 consecutive years. The business has expanded to over 100 countries and regions.

From January to September 2024, Chery Group sold 1,752,793 units. This represents a 39.9% year-on-year increase. Exports reached 829,353 units, marking a 24.5% year-on-year increase.

Chery’s dual-track strategy, focusing on both domestic and international markets, has fuelled substantial growth, with exports now representing nearly 50% of total sales.

The company has shown performance in both the internal combustion engine (ICE) and new energy vehicle (NEV) sectors. Year-on-year, ICE vehicle sales rose by 24.9%, while sales of NEV surged by an astounding 186%.
