BYD Dolphin available in two variants, Dynamic Standard and Premium Extended Range
The BYD Dolphin is now in Malaysia. The all-electric hatchback is the second model from BYD, after the Atto 3 crossover which launched in December 2022. The Dolphin is available in two variants. The Dynamic Standard has a range of 340km while the Premium Extended has a range of 427km, both WLTP figures.
Both are front-wheel drive, powered by single motor. The Dynamic Standard has a maximum power of 70kW with a maximum torque of 180Nm. 0-100km/h takes 12.3 seconds. The battery capacity is 44.9kW with a 7kW AC charging speed. DC fast charging is up to 60kW.
The Premium Extended has 150kW maximum power and 310Nm maximum torque. It takes seven seconds from standstill to 100km/h. The battery capacity is 60.48kW. AC charging is 7kW while DC charging is up to 80kW.
Both variants are powered by BYD’s proprietary Blade Battery. They also have vehicle-to-load function and come with a discharge adapter.
The Dolphin is 4290mm long, marginally shorter than the Honda City Hatchback by 50mm although the Dolphin wheelbase is 100mm longer at 2700mm. Front suspension is MacPherson strut for both although the Dynamic Standard has a torsion beam rear suspension while the Premium Extended has multi-link at the rear. The Dynamic Standard rides on 16-inch rims while the Premium Extended has 17-inch rims.
There are LED headlights with high beam assist, daytime running lights, taillight bar, and Follow Me Home headlights.

Inside, the infotainment is displayed on a 12.8-inch touchscreen monitor that rotates to horizontal or vertical display. The digital instrument cluster is displayed on a 5-inch monitor, mounted on the steering column. Apple CarPlay, connected by wire is available along with USB-A and USB-C points. Six speakers, satellite navigation and voice assistance are also provided. Other features are keyless entry and keyless start, portable key card, automatic air conditioning and PM2.5 air filter.
The seats are synthetic leather. The driver’s seat has six-way manual adjustment in the Dynamic Standard with four-way for the front passenger seat.
In the Premium Extended, the driver’s seat has six-way electronic adjustment with four-way adjustment in the front passenger seat, both are ventilated seats. There is also a panoramic sun roof.
The Dynamic Standard Range is available in two exterior colours, Urban Grey, paired with grey and black upholstery, and Sand White, with brown and black upholstery.
There are three two-tone exterior colours for the Premium Extended Range. Atlantis Grey with Delan Black has grey and black interior, Surf Blue with Urban Grey has blue and black interior while Ski White with Urban Grey has grey and black interior.
The BYD Dolphin starts from RM RM100,530 for the Dynamic Standard Range. The Premium Extended Range is RM125,730. Both prices are on-the-road, without insurance. Deliveries will start in August.
The Dolphin comes with six-year/150,000 km warranty, an eight-year/160,000 km high-voltage battery warranty, and an eight-year/150,000 km drive unit warranty. In addition, there is a three-year/60,000 km warranty that covers:

- AC/DC charging port assembly
- bushing
- gasket
- USB charging port assembly
- PM2.5 measuring instrument and dust cover
Finally, there is a four-year/100,000 km warranty that covers the vehicle’s lights, tyre pressure monitoring module, suspension, and ball joint.
