New BMW 3 Series initial launch with three variants, two more to come later this year
The new BMW 3 Series is now in Malaysia. Three variants, two petrol, 320i M Sport and 330i M Sport, and one plug-in hybrid, 330e M Sport, are available.
The BMW 320i M Sport has an inline four-cylinder engine that produces 184bhp and 300Nm of torque. Acceleration from standstill to 100 km/h takes 7.4 seconds to top speed of 235 km/h.
The BMW 330i M Sport, also with an inline four-cylinder engine produces 258bhp and 400Nm of torque, 0 – 100 km/h is in 5.8 seconds while top speed is 250 km/h.
The plug-in hybrid powertrain of the BMW 330e M Sport has a maximum combined output of 292bhp and 420 Nm of torque, with an electric motor that delivers 109bhp (80 kW) and 265 Nm of torque on its own. This allows a 0-100 time of 5.8 seconds. The top speed 230 km/h with the electric top speed of 140 km/h.
The top speed is electronically controlled. As standard, all three variants are paired with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission.
All three look almost identical on the outside with an “M” logo on the front fender to indicate the two petrol versions while the plug-in hybrid is denoted with an “electrified by i” logo, also on the front fender.
They come with M Aerodynamics package and M High-gloss Shadowline, which are part of the M Sport package. New design features are the modified kidney grille, LED headlights, front apron, larger tailpipes and rear diffuser.
Inside, the new 3 Series now has the BMW Curved Display which first debuted in the BMW i4. There is a 12.3-inch Information Display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen Control Display. M Sport Package features include M entry sills with a stainless-steel look, M driver’s footrest and M pedals with a stainless-steel look, sport seats for driver and front passenger, hand-stitched M leather steering wheel in Walknappa leather, vehicle key with exclusive M designation, M Anthracite headliner, instrument cluster with M specific display and M Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite interior trim. The standard upholstery is Vernasca leather Black but Mocha will also be offered for the 330i and 330e.
Standard equipment includes the BMW Live Cockpit Professional with BMW Head-Up Display, powered by the latest version of the BMW Operating System 8. There is also a suite of features to interact with the vehicle and control its functions:
- natural language via the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant
- touchscreen operation using the Control Display
- BMW iDrive Controller
- touch-only direct access controls
Other standard digital features are Comfort Access, Remote Software Update and BMW ID. The Connected Package Professional, which includes the digital services such as Remote Services, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will also be in the new 3 Series. As before, drivers can the access support functions through the My BMW App.
The standard driver assistance systems include:
- Driving Assistant with Lane Departure Warning with active steering interventions
- Lane Change Warning
- Front Collision Warning with brake intervention
- Rear Crossing Traffic Warning
- Rear Collision Warning
- Speed Limit Info
- manual Speed Limit Assist
There is also Parking Assistant with Park Assist, Active Park Distance Control (PDC), Lateral Parking Aid and Reversing Assist Camera. Also standard is the Reversing Assistant, which keeps a record of up to the last 50 metres driven forward and is able to drive back the exact same way in reverse if desired.
