Kia EV5 featured at 2024 Kia EV Day

The Kia EV5 SUV has Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design language, and features a new version of Kia’s trademark ‘Digital Tiger Face’, incorporating a new lighting signature.

The mid-size SUV has distinctive headlight with the headlights pushed to the extreme edges. The lights are linked by a light bar across the front bonnet which accentuates the width of the EV5. Alongside design details like the distinctive black wheel arch covers connected by the contrasting lower panel and a light bar that spans the width of the tailgate with angular Cs dropping vertically down at either end, the EV5 looks bold, sleek and dynamic.

The panoramic sunroof and light-coloured materials and upholstery make the interior feel open and roomy. The impression of spaciousness is also an the optical illusion. This is created by the carefully asymmetric layout of of the dashboard and the contrast between the the visually-busier driver’s cockpit, taking up two-thirds of the dashboard versus the plainer front passenger side on the other third, bookended by the mirror-image, angular, vertical-style air vents at the extreme ends. The driver gets a two-tone, multi-control steering wheel, long glass panel which houses the instrument clusters and infotainment unit, and centre air-conditioning vents. The front passenger gets bare expanse of dashboard.

Part of the front passenger’s seat is an upholstered overhang. Shaped like a small tray, it forms a bench across to the driver’s seat. The charging mat is in the void space under this bench between the front seats. At the rear, there is a sliding drawer in the centre console to store hot or cold drinks.

The length is 4615mm with a wheelbase of 2750mm. Meanwhile, the width is 1875mm and the height is 1715mm. The boot is 513L.

There are two battery variants. The long range 88.1kWh battery produces a WLTP range of 555km while the 64.2kWh battery capacity manages 400km. Maximum power for both is 230kW with maximum torque of 480Nm.

The long range takes 6.1 seconds to cover 100km/h from standstill while the short range takes 8.5 seconds. Allow 37 minutes if DC charging from 10% to 80% for both variants.

The Kia EV5 is already available in several markets where it goes up against the Tesla Model Y and the soon-to-launch X-peng G6.
