2024 Kia EV Day: the EV revolution continues

First-ever Kia EV Day was a showcase of Kia EVs and concepts of future cars

Kia recently held 2024 Kia EV Day 2024 in Taipei with journalists from Malaysia including yours truly, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines to mark the event. It was a significant milestone in Kia’s EV revolution, an event was for Kia to share their EV plans for the future and to showcase the Korean automaker’s electric vehicle line up of the EV3, EV5, EV9 and two concept vehicles, the Concept EV4 and Concept PV5.

In addition to unveiling new models, Kia also shared their strategic plans for the future. Besides a full lineup of EVs at various price points and also accelerate the popularisation of EVs. Kia would also expand its range of Hybrid EVs and Purpose Built Vehicles alongside internal combustion engine vehicles for emerging markets. In addition, Kia will also stabilise its EV production and battery supply system by operating six local production bases by 2025.

Kia aims to sell 1.6 million EVs annually by 2030. The event underscored Kia’s commitment to enhancing customer experience (CX) through technologies like apps. These would be across all customer touch-points, ranging from in-store to in-car, and even at home or when on mobile.

The compact-sized Kia EV3 was an event hightlight. The EV3 has been described as a smaller EV9. It was also designed with the same level of innovation and technology. The EV3 will go on sale in selected Asia Pacific countries in 2025.

The design philosophy for the EV3 is “Opposites United”. Built on Kia’s E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform), it has a boxy body and sloping roofline. Also, a wide stance that gives it a sporty look. The EV3 has Electric Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control (eDTVC) to optimise traction on the move. Also in the EV3 are a variety of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) including

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Highway Driving Assist 2
  • Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist
  • Remote Smart Parking Assist

2024 Kia EV Day was also about showcasing Kia’s future EVs which included the Concept EV4 and the Concept PV5.

The Concept EV4 represents the purity of the “Power to Progress” pillar of the “Opposites United” design philosophy. It merges earth-inspired aesthetics with cutting-edge technology. The spacious driver-centric design had the air of modern luxury with coach doors, basket-weave interior details and futuristic, minimalist seats. 

The PV5 Concept, is Kia’s first dedicated Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV). The concept addresses total mobility solutions and incorporates both spatiality and software technology. The design is about versatility. During the presentation, a wide range of potential uses was put forward. The PV5 Concept has a bus-like form. The interior is customisable to multiple purposes which makes it suitable for a wide range of uses like ride hailing, logistics or personal lifestyle activities. 

Also at Kia EV Day, was the flagship EV9 which has gathered worldwide recognition and accolades. These include the Supreme Winner of the 2024 Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year and wins at the 2024 World Car Awards.

The 2024 Kia EV Day at Asia Pacific concluded with a reaffirmation of Kia’s Strategy, emphasising sustainable mobility and a greener future.
