
Ferrari SF90 Spider is the first hybrid with a retractable hard top in the Ferrari range
The Ferrari SF90 Stradale is now available as a convertible. The Ferrari SF90 Spider is the first hybrid with a retractable hard top in the Ferrari range and is also Ferrari’s first production plug-in hybrid spider.
The SF90 Spider has the same specifications and performance as the SF90 Stradale: a 4.0-litre, V8 that produces 768bhp, boosted to a combined total of 986bhp by three electric motors. Two of the motors are at the front wheels, which operate independently of each other, while the third is at the rear between the engine and gearbox. Each motor driver has its own inverter to manage AC and DC charging to the 7.9 kWh lithium-ion battery. There is also regenerative braking, enabling a total electric range of 26km. The transmission is an eight-speed dual-clutch. There is no reverse gear – the two motors at the front wheels provide torque vectoring or RAC-e (rotation axis control electric) which also enables the car to move in reverse.
The retractable hard top is made with aluminium. It weighs 40kg less than conventional retractable hard top and takes 14 seconds to deploy. The compact design occupies up 100 litres of space compared to the 150-200 litres of other systems.
Like the SF90 Stradale, the SF90 Spider is also available with an additional specification option, the Assetto Fiorano pack. This has exclusive upgrades like Multimatic shock absorbers, carbon-fibre and titanium that shave 21 kg off the car’s weight, a carbon-fibre rear spoiler and road-homologated Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. Lastly, the Assetto Fiorano offers an optional two-tone livery.
